What shocked Vitor Pereira when he first spoke with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis

Vitor Pereira has now got his feet firmly under the table at Nottingham Forest since his appointment back in February.

Forest are eight matches unbeaten in all competitions going into tonight’s Europa League first leg against Aston Villa.

The Reds are still fighting for Premier League survival, but can relax a little bit going into this evening, with the club five points clear of the relegation zone on the domestic front.

Pereira has quickly become part of the furniture at Forest, and now, it’s been claimed what he said to Evangelos Marinakis before even accepting the Forest job.

What Vitor Pereira told Evangelos Marinakis during first meeting

After a third manager of the season departed in Sean Dyche, it was imperative that Marinakis moved quickly, and he’s worked with Pereira previously.

An article from Forest journalist John Percy in The Telegraph has now suggested what was said to Marinakis on the first day that Pereira was quizzed on the Forest job.

It’s believed that Pereira asked the question of how on earth Forest found themselves in their relegation-threatened predicament, given the quality within the squad.

With that in mind, the decision to accept the job was an easy one for Pereira, and it has not taken him too long to start getting a tune out of the team.

Pereira has proved a revelation in recent weeks, refusing to make excuses for extra games that Forest have had to play in Europe and keeping his team fresh at all times.

The Portuguese incumbent is delivering a superb audition to the club’s hierarchy to prove that he wants to be the man tasked with enjoying a better Premier League campaign in 2026/27.

Winning the Europa League with this squad could see the season end in superb style, and a big win over Aston Villa tonight could go a long way towards helping achieve that goal.
