Tony Khan Wants Loaded AEW Dynamite To Counter FIFA World Cup Game

AEW has packed this week’s episode of Dynamite with eight matches and an overrun, and a new report explains why the show is so loaded.

During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Tony Khan wants to deliver a huge card since Dynamite will air head‑to‑head with a World Cup match between Mexico and Czechia on FOX and Telemundo.

Meltzer noted that Khan is a big soccer fan and is very aware of the competition, so he is trying to put on a “hell of a show” while also building extra hype for Sunday’s Forbidden Door 2026 pay‑per‑view event.

The June 24 episode of AEW Dynamite, airing live from the Rio Rancho Events Center in New Mexico, features eight advertised bouts and no squash matches, which means AEW has to be careful with timing, even with the planned overrun.

Meltzer pointed out that since the matches are stronger “on paper” than a recent seven‑match episode of Collision, fans can likely expect a fast‑paced, busy show.
