Leeds United ahead of Aston Villa as both ‘move’ for £26m transfer

Leeds United are ahead of Aston Villa in their search for a new goalkeeper.

That’s according to Calciomercato who claim the Whites and Villans are keen on Japan international Zion Suzuki.

Calciomercato reckon both have ‘made a move’ for the 23-year-old who is currently at the World Cup and preparing for tonight’s knockout tie with Brazil.

Suzuki started the three group games against Netherlands, Tunisia and Sweden and plays his club football for Parma. He signed a five year deal with the Serie A outift in July 2024.

He has played 59 times for Parma and his performances for Japan have attracted the attention of the Premier League duo as well as AC Milan and Internazionale.

The report says Leeds have made contact over Suzuki, as they look for a solution to a goalkeeping situation that saw Lucas Perri dropped last season and Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier about to be out of contract later this week.

Villa meanwhile have long-term No. 1 Emiliano Martinez but once again there is speculation surrounding the 33-year-old’s future, with Juventus claimed to be interested.

Parma are said to want €30million (£26m) for Suzuki with Leeds and Villa having already gone head to head in the transfer window, with Harry Wilson set to choose Elland Road over a move to Champions League-bound Villa.
