Not long after being named the Bruins’ captain, David Pastrnak is already making an impact. He’s also chasing history. However, he’s more concerned about the former.
The Bruins beat the Utah Mammoth 6-1 on Thursday night. During that game, Pastrnak scored his first two goals of the season. By doing so, he tied an old teammate in the Bruins’ record books.
Pastrnak tied Brad Marchand with 422 goals. He can break the tie in his next game. While he felt it was an honor to match Marchand, Pastrnak was happier with helping the Bruins end a two-game losing streak.
“It’s nice,” Pastrnak said via NHL.com. “Brad was a heck of a player, to tie him with the goals is amazing. I’m pretty sure I would still be chasing him a little bit if he was playing here. Like I said, he’s a heck of a Bruin, so it’s a pleasure for me to tie him.
“On the other hand, I was just happy I scored and getting my feel back a little bit.”

Up next for Pastrnak would be Patrice Bergeron (427).
The last two games saw the Bruins being outscored 8-2. They failed to execute on several power play attempts against the Senators. Pastrnak’s two goals against Utah were while the Bruins had the power play.
The Bruins didn’t make it past the first round of the playoffs last year. Boston lost five of their last seven regular-season matchups. Pastrnak wants to make sure the Bruins hold onto their momentum, regardless of where they are in the season.
“The season is so long and you know you’re going to go through ups and downs and it’s important to stay in the moment and make sure you respond, but at the same time, when things go well, don’t be too high,” Pastrnak said.
“Just try to keep each other with a foot on the ground and make sure we keep getting better as a team every single day.”
