Rotherham United close on free transfer deal for promotion-winning winger

Rotherham United are close to securing the free signing of former MK Dons winger Aaron Nemane, according to Pete O’Rourke.

Rotherham United are looking to ramp up their summer transfer business following their relegation to League Two and recent appointment of head coach Alex Bruce. RUFC are targeting a move for recently released MK Dons winger Aaron Nemane.

The two sides will swap divisions this upcoming season, though Nemane looks to be remaining in the fourth tier, as the Millers look to capitalise on his Stadium MK departure.

The 28-year-old RUFC target has become available following two seasons with his previous employers, establishing himself as a top League Two asset. It is now understood by Pete O’Rourke that the South Yorkshire outfit are closing in on the completion of the free transfer.

A further report from the Rotherham Advertiser confirmed the interest, stating that Nemane is set for a medical next week, having agreed to terms for a deal to move to the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Aaron Nemane stays in League Two with Rotherham United deal

Despite not having made his EFL debut until 2023, the former Manchester City youth product has impressed across spells with Notts County and MK Dons in the fourth tier.

Nemane will set his sights on yet another promotion with Bruce’s Rotherham United, having previously been a part of promotion-winning campaigns in both 2022/23 and 2025/26.

Born in France before moving to England to join Manchester City’s academy system, the versatile wideman has experienced loan spells away with Rangers, Go Ahead Eagles and Tubize-Braine, though he failed to break through and dropped to the National League with Torquay United in 2019.

Aaron Nemane’s career statistics by club

Club Appearances Goals Assists
Notts County 110 13 12
Milton Keynes Dons 84 3 14
Torquay United 31 4 2

Last season, Nemane managed 23 starts in League Two, operating across roles on both the left and right flank, and put up seven goal contributions.

His first campaign with the Dons in 2024/25 saw him start a much greater 36 games in the league whilst registering an impressive nine assists from the right of midfield.

How Nemane deal strengthens Rotherham United’s wide options

The addition of Nemane would highlight the fact that Rotherham United are keen to operate with wide players next season, further strengthening the area.

Currently, a host of RUFC’s playing squad are capable of fulfilling a role on the right-hand side. Top performer Denzel Hall is a natural wing-back and full-back, whilst Marvin Kaleta is predominantly a more attack-minded defender.

Club captain Joe Rafferty has been a right-back his whole career, though he spent last season on the right of a back three. January signing Brandon Cover can also play on the right of defence, as well as in midfield.

This leaves competition for places in the RUFC squad, though it may mean a sale in the area could be expected.
