I Coached The Best Team In The World! Arbeloa’s Response To Growing Fulham Pressure

Alvaro Arbeloa insisted he is not worried about his position after a dramatic 2-1 defeat at Ipswich left Fulham still waiting for their first Premier League win since he took over as boss.

Ryan Sessegnon’s goal at Portman Road looked like ending the Whites’ wait for a victory under Arbeloa.

But Ipswich scored two late goals, including a stoppage-time winner, leaving the Spaniard to face questions about whether he is already under pressure.

“I’m a coach, so I never worry about my position. I don’t feel fear,” he said.

“You cannot be a coach if you feel it. I think you have to work, take your decision and you need to show confidence to your players.

“For me, I am so happy with many things that they are doing. I know it’s not easy for them.”

Fulham are one off the bottom of the table – above Tottenham only goal difference – and face a vital match at home to Hull City next weekend.

Pressed on the question of whether he is under pressure, former Real Madrid coach Arbeloa said: “Maybe you don’t know me, but I have coached the best team in the world.

“Maybe you don’t know, but just to let you know that pressure has been part of my life since I was kid.

“So it’s normal in football. It’s normal for players. It’s normal for coaches. It’s normal for everybody that is around a team.

“Yes, I think the pressure is something that is important for me and I like it.

“It’s not about my position, it’s about Fulham’s position. That is the most important thing.

“Obviously, it’s just six games, but it’s true that we need points. It’s a final next week at home, so for us it will be a massive game.”
