The Boston Bruins have placed defenseman Ian Mitchell on waivers. Mitchell appeared in 13 games with Boston during the 2023-24 season, registering two assists.
The St. Albert, Alberta native spent the majority of the season with Boston’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins. In 42 games, Mitchell scored six goals and 24 points, adding two goals and two assists in the team’s four games in the Calder Cup Playoffs. In 95 NHL games, Mitchell has scored four goals and 14 assists. In his 109-game AHL career, he has notched 19 goals and 47 assists, including six points in nine playoff games.
Raphaël Lavoie’s crazy week seems to be wrapping up. The ongoing saga has been going on since Oct. 6 when the Edmonton Oilers placed him on waivers for the first time. Since then, Lavoie has been claimed by Edmonton twice and Vegas three times. However, now Lavoie has been cleared to play for Vegas’s AHL affiliate the Henderson Silver Knights.
Lavoie split the 2023-24 campaign between the Oilers and their AHL affiliate the Bakersfield Condors. Lavoie notched a career-high 28 goals and 22 assists for 50 points in 66 games with the Condors, the 23-year-old ranked first among Condors’ skaters in goals for a second season in a row, and third in points. Lavoie appeared in seven NHL games with Edmonton throughout the regular season but was held pointless. In 202 AHL games with Bakersfield, Lavoie has tallied 71 goals and 60 assists for 131 points in that frame. He has added two goals and six points in 10 Calder Cup playoff contests.
Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Jets placed goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen on waivers and he has been claimed by the Colorado Avalanche. Kahkonen signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Jets this past summer after splitting the 2023-24 season between San Jose and New Jersey. Kahkoken was fighting for the backup position in Winnipeg with Eric Comrie.
