Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has internally ruled himself out of taking over a club like Fulham due to a desire to continue to manage in the Champions League.
Enzo Maresca has not returned to the dugout since his January 1 exit from Stamford Bridge, where he received a minimal payoff after walking away from his contract.
There have been long-term links to him taking over at Manchester City after Pep Guardiola leaves the club, however there is currently no indication he will leave this summer.
A number of Premier League jobs are likely to come up at the end of the season, including roles at Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Fulham.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs has stated that the manager is targeting a move to a side currently competing in the Champions League.
He told The Football Terrace: “Some have linked Enzo Maresca with the likes of a Bournemouth, a Crystal Palace, a Fulham if Marco Silva leaves. My information on Enzo Maresca is he’s only really looking at elite Champions League football clubs.
“If you discount Manchester United, who seemingly are either going to give it to Carrick or maybe explore Julian Nagelsmann, if you look at the fact that there’s no return to Chelsea possible on the cards, Newcastle continue to back Eddie Howe, at least for now, Liverpool want to stick with Arne Slot, again at least for now. So there aren’t that many jobs for Maresca.”
This could see the Italian look for a move away from the Premier League, with a number of opportunities already seeming to present themselves.
Maresca linked with Serie A return
He enjoyed a substantial playing career in his home country, and now the boss has been linked with a number of managerial jobs there too.
Maresca has been linked with replacing Antonio Conte at Napoli, with things not going too well there. They were dumped out of the Champions League by Chelsea earlier this season.
Roma are also interested in Maresca, where he would have the chance to work alongside former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri.
Despite the fact it may be a while until we see Maresca back in the dugout, whoever gets him will know they are hiring one of the most promising managers in world football.
