Everton could be set for another bumper crowd for a Carabao Cup tie at Hill Dickinson Stadium after they handed Newcastle United a 15% allocation for their fourth round clash on Thursday October 29.
The last 16 pairing – after the respective clubs both won 1-0 against Championship opposition, the Blues at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Magpies’ at Millwall – ensures the teams will be facing each other twice in the space of five days as David Moyes’ travel to St James’ Park for a Premier League fixture the following Monday.
They also met as recently as August 12 in a pre-season friendly at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, the home of Scottish rugby union with Everton triumphing 3-1.
EFL Cup rules state that home teams must grant at least 10% of seats to visitors but the Blues have given Newcastle 15% which will allow 7,732 Tyneside supporters to travel down – the same number that their North East rivals Sunderland sold out for their FA Cup third round tie at Hill Dickinson Stadium on January 10. Everton will now be hoping for another near-sell out crowd at their 52,769 capacity home on the banks of the Mersey.
With 48,583 watched the inaugural League Cup tie at the venue against Mansfield Town on August 27, 2025, EFC Statto (Bradley Cates) pointed out that the 50,970 attendance for the previous round against Wolves was only the third time in the Blues’ history that they had attracted more than 50,000 for a home tie in the League Cup. The two previous occasions were 54,032 for a semi-final first leg against Bolton Wanderers in 1977 and 53,323 for a quarter-final against Liverpool in 1987.
Everton were watched by their biggest ever regular crowds in 2025/26 with an average gate of 52,121 eclipsing their previous best of 51,603 set in the 1962/63 title-winning campaign, the only previous occasion they had topped the 50,000 figure over the course of an entire season.
An attendance of 51,759 against Brighton & Hove Albion was the Blues’ biggest for an opening league game of a season for 52 years. It was the 20th time in their history that they have had a crowd of 50,000 plus for their first home league fixture, but their first since 52,348 watched them defeat Manchester United on August 16, 1972, yet has now been topped by the 51,820 that witnessed them overcome Crystal Palace 2-0 to kick off this term on August 22.
