Huge Fulham blow for Leeds United clash as ban confirmed during Chelsea game

Fulham manager Marco Silva will be forced to watch his side’s game against Leeds United next weekend from the stands due to suspension.

Silva was shown a yellow card during the first-half of Fulham’s Wednesday-evening London derby at home to Chelsea. The Fulham boss was incensed on the Craven Cottage touchline following a challenge on Harry Wilson.

Chelsea defender Gonçalo Santos Marc Cucurella had just been sent off but something angered Silva, who was booked by referee Peter Bankes. That was Silva’s third Premier League yellow card of the campaign which means he will be forced to serve a one-match touchline ban.

Fulham face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round this weekend but as per FA disciplinary rules, player suspensions as a result of accumulated yellow cards are competition specific, meaning they do not carry over between the Premier League and domestic cup competitions. The same is believed to be true of managers, meaning Silva should be in the dugout on Saturday.

The Portuguese boss is, however, expected to serve his one-game touchline ban when Fulham travel to Leeds on Saturday, January 17. Silva will be able to speak with his side in the changing room before kick-off and at half-time, but he will have no in-game input.

It is likely one of Silva’s three assistants, Antonios Lemonakis, Gonçalo Pedro and Gonçalo Santos, will take charge of in-game matters at Elland Road. The Cottagers boss is allowed to communicate with his staff in the dugout but not directly with players on the pitch.
