What we know as Amanda Staveley update drops at West Ham after Everton takeover twist

Amanda Staveley has recently made attempts to buy shares in West Ham United.

The businesswoman helped with the £305million takeover of Newcastle United in 2021 alongside Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and RB Sports and Media.

Her consortium, PCP Capital Partners, stepped down from all positions there in July 2024 and has been searching for a new investment since.

Staveley submitted a £160m offer to buy Vanessa Gold’s West Ham shares in July this year, but Daniel Kretinsky had first refusal; therefore, her attempt to buy 25.1 per cent of the Hammers failed.

Kretinsky is now the biggest shareholder at the Irons, increasing his share following David Sullivan’s announcement that he has stepped down from his role after recent allegations of misconduct.

Despite Staveley’s failed takeover attempt, it appears that her interest in West Ham has not faded.

Why Amanda Staveley still has her eyes on West Ham

According to an update from the West Ham Way on Tuesday, Staveley and her consortium remain interested in the Hammers.

This comes despite the latest news from the Premier League that Everton’s owners, the Friedkin Group, are looking to sell after their takeover in 2024.

PCP Capital Partners have been rumoured to be making a move for the Toffees, and even if they are, Staveley is said to still be “very much interested” in West Ham.

The report suggests that a deal in E20 could still be revisited at a later time, with things currently being a waiting game.

The “experienced investor” is still in contention to potentially buy shares from the Irons in the future, either from Kretinsky or another existing shareholder.

However, an outcome is not expected to be reached any time soon, and is viewed as more of a long-term possibility.

West Ham fans may need to remain seated in terms of a boardroom reshuffle, which usually takes a long time to be finalised anyway.

However, Staveley still sees the London Stadium as an “attractive” prospect, even with Everton now officially in the market.

Which shares does Staveley want at West Ham?

Kretinsky is now the lead figure at the London Stadium, having upped his shares in the club to 46 per cent.

Staveley did have a deal in place to buy the Gold family’s shares in the Hammers before the Czech billionaire exercised his pre-emption rights.

Sullivan also rebuffed an enquiry about his stake from Staveley in the summer, which now stands at 40 per cent, according to The Guardian.

It remains to be seen in what capacity Staveley remains interested in buying shares at West Ham, and to what magnitude.

After Sullivan and Kretinsky, there is an additional 14 per cent of shares among other existing shareholders at West Ham.

Perhaps Staveley will approach these other figures, with Tripp Smith’s stake now reportedly standing at 11 per cent.

Either way, she’s definitely still one to watch while Jarrod Bowen and Nuno Espirito Santo fight for promotion back to the Premier League.
