The Boston Celtics made Jaylen Brown available during trade talks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to NBA insider Shams Charania, and other teams are reportedly trying to get him now that the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes is over.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Tuesday that other teams were preparing for the scenario where the Celtics did not land Antetokounmpo, so that they could try to make offers on Brown. Windhorst said five to ten teams could get involved in trade talks for Brown, and according to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, the Minnesota Timberwolves were one of those teams.
The Timberwolves pulled off a blockbuster trade for LaMelo Ball on Thursday, sending Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps and three second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets. However, they also discussed Brown with the Celtics.
“The Wolves did have discussions with the Celtics on Jaylen Brown as well, sources told The Athletic,” Krawczynski wrote on X. “But they saw LaMelo Ball as fitting more of what they needed, for likely less compensation going out.”
Brad Stevens left the door open to trade Brown during a press conference on Tuesday night. However, it sounds like it will take a massive haul or a superstar player in return to actually get Brown out of Boston.
