From Portugal: Marco Silva is leaving Fulham and has rejected Nottingham Forest

Marco Silva is set to leave Fulham this summer but has already rejected Nottingham Forest’s approaches.

A Bola report that the Fulham coach is now being targeted by Benfica as a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who is heading back to Real Madrid.

A Bola: Fulham spell over soon

The Portuguese newspaper reports that Marco Silva is ‘receptive’ to the idea of joining Benfica this summer.

The Portuguese club are now prepared to move forward for the Fulham coach as soon as Jose Mourinho’s exit from the club is confirmed. The ‘prevailing conviction’ at Benfica at this moment in time is that the ‘Special One’ will return to Real Madrid.

That’s led the Eagles to quickly put in a plan in place to replace him. The expectation is that everything will happen next week.

The Fulham manager is the one that has been targeted to replace Mourinho should he depart. The first ‘intense contacts’ have already been held with Silva about the position. He is said to have provided a ‘very positive’ response to the interest.

In fact, all indicators are that Silva is very interested in the job and that it would be possible to reach an agreement quickly.

While the Fulham coach is giving no public clues about his future, his decision has already been made. Fulham’s offer to renew will be rejected. He will leave Craven Cottage this summer.

To be clear, the newspaper states: ‘It is public knowledge that he has a renewal offer from Fulham, which, A BOLA knows, he will not accept. He will therefore part ways with the Londoners, whom he has been coaching since 2021.’

Nottingham Forest rejection

He will also reject any approaches from Nottingham Forest. While the English press is reporting that Evangelos Marinakis wants to reunite with Silva following their time together at Olympiacos, Silva is not interested in the job. He will turn down Nottingham Forest if an offer is made.

Benfica cannot make any announcements about a move for now. But talks with Silva regarding his contract and restructuring the squad can continue.

Benfica president Rui Costa wants to resolve the matter as quickly as possible so they can prepare for next season in advance. He is using the presence of Mario Branco, who worked with Silva at Estoril, to his advantage. Benfica and Silva value this connection highly.

The plan for now, is to focus on the game against Estoril. After that, it will be Mourinho’s future and then appointing Silva. But all signs point to the latter leaving Fulham, rejecting Nottingham Forest and heading back to Portugal this summer.
