Former Premier League striker thinks he’s better than Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood

Chris Wood has been making headlines with his goalscoring ability of late, but one former Premier League striker still fancies himself against the Nottingham Forest star.

Every pundit has had something nice to say about Chris Wood in recent weeks after his incredible rise in form at the City Ground.

Robbie Earle has praised Wood for turning his career around at Nottingham Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo certainly doesn’t think Wood is underrated anymore at Nottingham Forest, but Chris Sutton still shares the opinion that he is.

However, it’s important he sees this as an opportunity to kick on and not take his foot off the gas, as the Reds have a lot of work to do if they want to finish in the top half or even enjoy European football.

Interestingly, one former Premier League striker actually thinks he’s better than Chris Wood.

Troy Deeney thinks he’s better than Chris Wood

Troy Deeney has played 628 games in his football career, scoring 182 goals and providing 76 assists.

The bulk of his career came at Watford, where he enjoyed a number of successful seasons in the Premier League, taking top spot on the all-time top scorers list for the club.

This had led to him being of the belief that he is a better striker than Chris Wood.

The striker took the ‘Troy Deeney is a better striker than’ challenge on CBS Sports Golazo‘s TikTok channel.

This is where a number of players’ names are read out, and he can only talk when a player he thinks is better than him is read out. He stays silent when it comes to Chris Wood’s name.

In fact, he only talks for Jamie Vardy.

What does Taiwo Awoniyi’s future look like?

Given the system that Nuno Espirito Santo likes with the lone striker up top, it’s unlikely that Taiwo Awoniyi will get into the side unless there’s an injury involved.

Awoniyi was doubted for his Fulham display earlier on in the season when Wood and the Nigerian striker were paired up top, but it didn’t go to plan as neither of them received much service.

It’s been a struggle for him since, receiving just 15 minutes of action in the last two games.

Of course, Nottingham Forest could definitely do with having him as a backup when needed, as he’s shown he can be deadly on his day. But, it all depends on whether he’s happy with that role.
